Hidden Costs in No-Minimum Supplement Programs
Updated July 2, 2026
A supplier advertising "no minimum" is telling you something true and something incomplete at the same time. The order-quantity minimum might genuinely be zero -- and the total cost of starting can still be higher than it looks. Here's where that gap usually shows up.
Setup fees
A one-time setup fee to create your label template or configure your account is common, and can range from a small administrative charge to a fee large enough to function as a real minimum order. Ask for the number before you compare pricing across suppliers.
SKU minimums
Some programs require you to launch with more than one product at once. A SKU minimum of two or three products, even with a low per-unit order size, changes the total cost and complexity of a first launch significantly.
Minimum order value in dollars, not units
"No unit minimum" and "no dollar minimum" are not always the same claim. A supplier might accept an order of one unit as long as the total order value clears a set dollar threshold, which functions the same as a unit minimum if your product is priced low.
Packaging and label design costs
If a supplier's "free" label template doesn't match your brand, custom label design work is sometimes billed separately, and can be a meaningful cost if you're not doing the design yourself.
Shipping and fulfillment fees
Per-order fulfillment fees, especially for dropshipping, can erode margin in ways that aren't obvious from the order-minimum conversation alone. Review fulfillment terms as carefully as the minimum order policy.
How to protect yourself
Ask for a complete, written cost breakdown -- setup fees, per-unit cost, shipping, and any recurring account fees -- before comparing suppliers on headline pricing alone. A supplier that's transparent about all of this upfront is a stronger signal than a supplier whose marketing only mentions the order minimum.
